The aim of the pilot project is the testing and subsequent transmission of a model to improve the quality of life and promote village life through the use of digital services in the village Bremke, part of the municipality of Gleichen in southern Lower Saxony. Subsequently, the model is to be transferred to other districts in the municipality of Gleichen and other municipalities in rural regions, which are also characterised by a social fabric of active citizens and a lively community of village clubs.

Together with local associations and initiatives, the Foundation will conduct a discussion and participation process with the citizens of Bremke in order to determine which infrastructural disadvantages they perceive as particularly burdensome and how these can be improved by digital services. In a joint venture a communication and interaction platform that is optimally tailored to their needs and easy to use will be developed. The resulting platform will be accompanied by an offer of qualification and support, which will strengthen the willingness to participate in digital communication and strengthen social and neighbourly life in the village. The village shop, which has already been set up to improve the infrastructure, will become a place to experience digital media; volunteers will be qualified to pass on their knowledge to the people in the village and offer consultation hours to solve problems.

Role of the Digital Opportunities Foundation

The Digital Opportunities Foundation coordinates the project and, together with Haus kirchlicher Dienste and the local initiatives and stakeholders, implements round tables in Bremke as well as the co-creation process to develop digital solutions for infrastructural challenges.
