SIP Benchmark III
In 2009 (SIP II) and 2012 (SIP III) the European Commission announced the project SIP Benchmark. Filtersoftware and parental control tools were evaluated regularly with regard to effectiveness and usability over a three years time period.
Although filtering the Internet is often judged as Janus-faced, it can help to safeguard children and young people from being confronted with age inappropriate content. The study aimed at assisting parents and other adults in charge of minors in the decision making process.
Various software was tested for efficiency, safety, usability and functionality.
Role of the Digital Opportunities Foundation
The Digital Opportunities Foundation examined the usability and functionality of the software. Further project partners are INNOVA Europa as project coordinator and Cybion, responsible for the testing on efficiency and safety.
