As a board member, I bring a media education perspective that is based on my work as a media educator and researcher and shaped by my many years of board work at GMK e.V.. In the early years of the foundation, I was myself involved in foundation projects as a young research assistant at the Institute for Information Management Bremen at the University of Bremen. I am pleased to have come full circle and to now be able to support the foundation and its important work in a different way! The topics have changed in detail, but the foundation's mission is still highly topical.
Strengthening and enabling digital participation in society has become increasingly important. Our society is now permeated by digitality in all work and life contexts. This has far-reaching consequences for social participation, the safeguarding of which is one of the fundamental challenges for our democracy. Participation and co-determination require that people are able to participate and move in our (digital) world in a self-determined but also responsible manner. Media education has increasingly become a cross-sectional task, and the promotion of media literacy for a wide variety of target groups and areas is a core competence of the foundation. As can be easily seen from the portfolio of projects and initiatives, it is possible to combine both scientific and practical expertise in this field and to realize projects with reach and innovative appeal. A feat of strength that pays off!
As a representative of the University of Bremen, I want to advocate for more digital opportunities, help create them, and thus help shape the social conditions for more participation.
