As before, the Internet and digital media are actively used by significantly more younger people than older people. While the vast majority of younger people in Germany actively and regularly use the Internet, only around one in three of those over 60 participate in digital life. Over the past 15 years, this age gap has not narrowed for the over-70s, suggesting that existing measures to promote Internet use in this age group need to be reviewed and improved.
As part of the project "Digital mobility in old age - Tablet PCs for seniors", Telefónica Deutschland and the Digital Opportunities Foundation have launched a study to find out to what extent older people use digital media, what benefits this can have for them and what conditions must be in place for more seniors to take the step into the digital world.
Detailed study results were published at our event on July 12, 2017 at Telefónica BASECAMP.
