Aim of the project
In the context of “Dialog Internet'' the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth supports local networks that support families in media education. The local networks - alliances of diverse institutions in one location - carry out different measures for the promotion of media literacy of families. The Digital Opportunities Foundation attends to these local pilot projects. It is the goal of the project to test under which prerequisites a network of already existing local structures can support media families in their media education, especially those families that show a higher need for support.
From December 2012 to January 2013 local and regional institutions that advise families in everyday questions and/or attend to them in difficult situations were invited to form a network of at least three partners and apply for funding. Out of more than 80 complete and timely submitted applications the Digital Opportunities Foundation chose five of the most convincing approaches. For the assessment content-based aspects were looked at as well as the methodical and geographical variability of the approach.
Apart from choosing, attending to and advising the networks during the funding period, it was the role of the Digital Opportunities Foundation to evaluate the local pilot projects in order to derive general recommendations for action for the promotion of media literacy in families.
