Aim of the project

Vocational Occupation and job search are important steps into the world of employment. More and more young people use the internet and are ‘online’. The job market on the internet, with its numerous job portals offers young people not just the opportunity to find a job, but also to be found by potential employers. But media usage does not always mean that the possibilities of the internet are specifically used for finding a job. The initiative “Surfen zum Job' (Surfing to find a Job) wants to change that. Independent of their social environment and their background young people are given the chance to gain access to the job search on the internet.

For this purpose a training-session and practical guidelines were developed for employees of public and social institutions. A national one-time cross-operation cooperation included the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Worker’s Welfare Organisation), Caritas, Diakonie, the German Red Cross and the Partitätische Wohlfahrtsverband (Joint Welfare Organisation). These organisations opened their doors for member and staff of other organisations in order to lead a joint discussion on youth unemployment and to take action in the search of new possibilities to facilitate job and vocational training placements.

The Digital Opportunities Foundation was responsible for the coordination and management of the project. The foundation also developed a concept for the training of employees of public and social institutions and lead 30 trainings which qualified participants to support youths in finding jobs via the internet. Furthermore, the foundation developed the project’s website and evaluated the success of the project.
